Taking care of your mouth – teeth & gums, does more than create that winning smile.  A healthy mouth and healthy body, go hand in hand.  Numerous studies have linked oral health with overall health and proper oral hygiene can improve your chances of avoiding serious disease. Good oral hygiene, means, brushing, flossing, rinsing with an antiseptic mouthwash and regular visits to your dentist.

Less than 10ml of mouthwash or  pea size amount of gel is needed to achieve the maximum effect of OH! Care Mouthwash and HA-X Gel. No gargling or vigorous rinsing is necessary. Allow the mouthwash or gel to reach every corner of the mouth. The combination of hyaluronic acid and xylitol cleans, as well as putting its cellular regenerative properties into action.

Hyaluronic Acid in Oral Care

Hyaluronic acid (HA) is well known for improving hydration as it can attract up to 1000x its body weight in water. In addition to this, HA is important in wound healing, reduces inflammation, plus studies have shown HA, helps reduce bacterial adhesion and biofilm formation.

In the case of inflammation, the body reacts by concentrating its own production of hyaluronic acid onto the inflamed area. With OH! Care you accelerate the process by applying the HA-X Gel with highly concentrated hyaluronic acid to the desired area and letting it take effect.

Due to the calming and soothing comfort provided by OH! Care products, those suffering from the effects of cancer treatment, dry mouth or post surgical treatments will find the gel and mouthwash particularly beneficial in relieving symptoms.

When we reduce bacterial adhesion, we inhibit biofilm formation which reduces the risk of gum disease and tooth decay.  As odour causing bacteria are eliminated, we are left with clean fresh breath. Dry mouth and reduce saliva production, can, in turn, lead to an increase in bacterial growth and that’s when the hydrating properties of hyaluronic acid come to the rescue.

Xylitol in Oral care

Xylitol is a naturally occurring sugar that can be found in fruits, vegetables and grains like raspberries, mushrooms, corn and oats. It’s typically extracted from fibers in birch trees or corn husks and cobs.

A number of studies have shown xylitol can help reduce tooth decay and prevent cavities when added to oral care products.

Xylitol inhibits growth of harmful bacteria, essentially by starving the bacteria.  As a result of being undernourished, potentially harmful bacteria dies.

As xylitol reduces the adhesion of the bacteria to the teeth surface and reduces plaque levels, the risk of gingival inflammation is reduced.

Its sweet taste helps it encourage saliva production which also protects teeth by increasing the pH and reduces acid production potential of harmful bacteria, that are responsible for tooth decay.

Is it safe to use?

Doctors assert that it’s safe to consume up to 50 grams of xylitol a day. When consumed in excess, however, xylitol can have a laxative effect.

However, xylitol is not safe for dogs in any quantity – the substance has proven deadly when ingested by our canine friends, even in small amounts. If your dog does munch a morsel with xylitol, call your vet immediately.
